Voodoo Rays
PHoto-ReaL Study
When I first moved to London I stumbled across a voodoo rays pizza joint in Dalston. I was so excited when I found out that voodoo rays was owned by the one and only Guy Called Gerald. If you don’t know Guy Called Gerald he produced a seminal track in the 90s called Voodoo Rays that became a rave classic and is much loved by house music fans around the world. I get a real kick out of seeing the Voodoo Rays Pizza sign around town as it always reminds of the rich underground music scene that lives in London. As a sign of my appreciation I wanted to make a 3D version of the Voodoo Rays logo and and this idea soon evolved into a photo-real practice of the entire store.
I set out modelling the scene in Maya and gathered as much reference as possible to help me re-create the space. Once Modelling and UV's were done in Maya I brought the models into Substance Painter for Texturing and then back to Maya for Lighting and Rendering. My choosen renderer at the moment is Redshift and I also did some comping and colour correction in Photoshop. I am really happy with how the project turned out, I learnt a lot along the way and I'm looking forward to taking that knowledge into the next photo-real project I do.
Below you will find Final Comped images from both outside and inside the store, plus an additional interior angle as well as wireframes, clay renders and some screenshots from substance to check out my material set ups and some UV's.
